Renaissance

The Virgin Adoring the Sleeping Christ Child. A beautiful painting painted by Sandro Botticelli, during the era of High Renaissance. It was the heyday of the renaissance, artists during this time period loved painting “the birth of Jesus” they thought it had represented the birth of a new generation, they had seen a blooming of the fresh beginning. For a long time, "birth" has always meant the birth of Jesus. But is there any other meaning in birth? Everyone should have a special thanks and a blessed mood for the birth of their own lives. At that time, Greek mythology was re-translated and read again. The songs of the flesh in Greece's sublimation and the love of perfect flesh touched many artists. Although the church has many strict restrictions on Greek mythology as a heresy, beautiful myths have already called for people's love.

The creator of the painting, Sandro Botticelli, formerly known as Alessandro Filipepi, was an early Florentine artist in the European Renaissance. He was born in a middle class family in Florence, “Botticelli” was actually his nickname which means “Little barrel” in Italian. He was the first to be a leathersmith's father to learn to be a gold and silver artisan apprentice, but then followed his own wishes and sent him to the studio of Philip Libby to study painting. ibby's Gothic approach, the grasp of three-dimensional things, the expression of facial expressions and the attention to detail have had a profound impact on Botticelli's later painting style. In addition, the sculptures of the Porajolo brothers have also had an impact on Botticelli. After that, he was again from the class of Verrocchio, who was a 7-year-old Leonardo da Vinci. In 1470, he set up a personal painting studio on his own, and soon he was appreciative of the Medici family, ordering a large number of paintings from him. Maintaining a good relationship with the powerful Medici family also gives the painter political protection and favorable painting conditions. In addition, through this relationship, Botticelli was able to reach out to Florence's high society and literary and art circles, open up his horizons and reach out to all kinds of knowledge.

Last but not least, the painting itself. The painting was inspired by the work of Filippo Lippi, Botticelli's work is unusual in two respects: canvas painting is still uncommon at this time, and Christ children rarely seem to fall asleep. This change can be interpreted as a reminder of the death of Christ. The pain he suffers for humanity in the future may also be symbolized by detailed plants and fruits. For example, a red strawberry may refer to the blood of Christ. They also complement the beautiful rose pavilion, forming a “closed garden” that is a symbol of the Virgin of the Old Testament Solomon. This painting may have been designed for the family. The painting is now collected in the Scottish National Gallery.
